早在第二次世界大战前，先辈们便从
中国陆续到南洋来寻找出路。战争结
束后，为了宗族乡亲有更好互相照应
和联系，宗乡会馆便纷纷组织起来。
一九四七年南洋锺氏公会也正式成
立。当时，宗亲人数不多，临时会址
借用春栗先贤安顺律一三三号店屋楼
上。第一届主席由清快宗贤出任。众董事
认为借用会所并不能长期发展会务的
目标，一年后又搬迁到维多利亚三O
四号。一九四八年改选，由水发宗贤
任主席，副主席因明宗长，总务达三
宗长，财政茂莲宗长，以及各宗长董
事们，认为长期租赁实非善策，因加
入公会人数日益激增，活动范围也日
益扩大。 |

一九五三年董事会便发起购置会所之建议，由奕庄、桥才、江海、水发、毓瑾、剑英宗
贤带领下筹款并得到宗亲们热烈献捐下，一九五四年购置了如切台四十三号会所。有了
会所，会务活动便顺利展开，也成立了互助部、华人武术及舞狮团等活动。宗亲入会人
数激增，为了方便散居乡村甘榜宗亲们能更方便，董事先辈们于一九六三年由福源为首
以及奕庄、江海、桥才、水发、堪才、茂莲、锺娇、文贤等宗贤再度奔走筹款购置靠近
市区威拉三美三十号第二新会所，可说是先辈们一大伟大功绩也把会务跨近了一大步。 |

一九七0年十二月二十七日，会员联欢宴会上，
宗亲们提议创办奖学金。当时，便成立了奖学金小组，
由历届主席率领下董事与宗亲们，群策群力
，同心协力举行各类筹款活动。于一九七四年三月二十四日
吾会第一次颁发小学组、中学组及
高中组奖学金，一直延续至今。奖学基金得到宗亲们热心慷慨捐献，
存款日益增加。
如今，我国人民生活水准提高，通讯快捷，科技发达，为了会务能跟
得上社会进步发展所须，对
四五十年代落伍的章程也在一九九五年重新修
改，名为(新加坡锺氏公会)，更适合现今社会的趋势
，会务逐渐开放，吾会也跟星、马的地缘，血缘密切，于一九七八年成立了星马锺姓
联宗会。

又于一九八四年扩展成为世界锺姓联宗会，参与盛会者包括新加坡、马来西亚、泰国、
菲律宾、中国、台湾、香港、印尼、美国以及毛里求斯等逐渐在扩大之中，每两年轮流
主办世界联宗大会，希望能在世界领域里，商业、科技、人才等各方面能互相交流，为
国家、社会作出更大贡献。

BRIEF HISTORY
OF ZHONG CLAN ASSOCIATION ( SINGAPORE )

| Our
ancestors began to migrate to South East Asia long
before the 2 nd World War. Immediately after the
War, there was a strong need among the immigrants
to look after the welfare of their clansmen and
to communicate with each other. During this period,
many clan associations were formed. In 1947, the
“Nanyang Zhong Clan Association”
was officially set up. The first
temporary office was located at the upstairs of
No. 133 Anson Road. A year later, it was moved to
No. 304 Victoria Street.
The
membership increased steadily. In 1953, under the leadership of the Management Committee
and with the overwhelming support and donations from our fellow clansmen, we managed to
acquire the first office premises of our own at No. 43 Joo Chiat Terrace. |

| The activities organised by the
Association further expanded. More and more members participated in the Chinese Martial
Art Session, Mutual Benefit Section and Lion Dance Group. In order to encourage our
members from the rural areas to take part in our activities, the Management Committee
decided to acquire a second premises near town at No. 30 Veerasamy Road.

The
setting up of a Scholarship Section was mooted in
1970. After several year of soliciting for donations,
we managed to award “Scholarship”
to the children of our members
from the primary, junior secondary and senior secondary
schools.
In 1978, we co-established
the Singapore-Malaysia Zhong Clan Conference which
was further expanded into World Zhong Clan Conference
in 1984.
With a view of preparing our
Association for a challenging era ahead, the name
of our Association was changed to Zhong Clan Association
Singapore and the regulations of the Association
was amended in 1995. The current Management Committee
hopes that more members especially young members
will come forward to serve their fellow clansmen.
